How Many Hours Are You Really Working?
The average person works a 40-hour work week. That’s 8 hours a day for at least 5 of the 7 days. Sounds pretty standard. But if you own your own business, are you working this standard 40 hour work week? Probably not. Let’s see how many hours you really spend working each week and how they affect your growth. The work from home trend has had a big impact on actual working hours versus productivity.
How Many Hours Are You Working?
A lot of people have different ideas about working hours. Some say a 4-hour work week is plenty, and others put in over 100 hours a week. What you do is your choice, no need to conform to any specific schedule.
Never Off The Clock
If you own a business and you are the sole or one of the very few managing the day-to-day changes are, you work a lot. You are constantly on your phone, checking your email and answering calls even when you aren’t in the office. We would have to consider this working 18 hours a day. The only rest you get is sleep.
Work Smarter Not Harder
Many people find that working long hours actually decrease their productivity. In fact, a study did show that after 50 hours a week, productivity declined greatly. You need a chance to rest and renew yourself to remain productive. If this sounds like you, work less, but work harder, you may see a big difference.
The thing is, as a business owner, it’s very hard to check out and relax. If anything, even the smallest thing, goes wrong, you usually have to fix it. Now, this may be okay in the start, but it is the true bottleneck when it comes to business growth. You cannot grow unless you are willing to give some of the tasks you do to others. It may sound difficult, but if you can find someone you trust with the same passion, your company will grow.
We hope this has given you some insight into what you need to do to get your hours under control and start to grow. We know all the people at DataTech work extremely hard every day.
